Athistam (luck) and its association with Indian women
Some dumbfuck yesterday said that PV Sindhu failed to get gold because KK wished her well using her bad luck bringing mouth.
Not so long ago, Virat Kohli’s defeat and later, victory in cricket was attributed to Anushka Sharma being his gf and later, ex gf. Many tasteless memes were circulated citing that Anushka is peedai (bad luck) that made Kohli lose when she was in a relationship with him and win when she broke up with him.
Indians really need to come round when it comes to the topic of luck and women who bring luck and those who are supposedly bring bad luck. For example, widows are attributed to bad luck, hence sidelined during auspicious occasions. Same goes to married childless women. Of course the stigma is not bad as it was 50 years ago but its vestiges are still present to this day. At the same time, married women and women who bore a lot of children are considered good luck bringing. What's sad is, it is often times women who perpetuate this - guys are actually cool about this.
My question is, when are we going to stop associating good luck/bad luck with women? Women are neither walking good luck charms or walking bad luck bringers. They are people with emotions and feelings. Everything doesn’t happen because of luck. More valuable than luck are character, convictions, effort and hard work. So, Indians, quit the Asthalakshmi/sumanggali/
