It's International Women's Day & as a woman, I am not celebrating

Last year, there was such a fuss on how International Men’s Day was not getting attention like International Women’s Day and that it’s all feminists’ fault. I have one thing to say – specific days for celebration of a bunch of humans mean nothing if you don’t work the rest of the days to lend the celebratory day a meaning.

I am a feminist and a woman. And I am not celebrating International Women’s Day. Because “Happy Women’s Day,” rings hollow when you fail to treat women as human beings with human rights.

You either elevate women – goddess, angel, pure or browbeat them - bitches, sluts, thevidiya punda. You never want to treat women as equals.

You can’t tolerate a bunch of women and men (KK’s male admins) running a page for women (and for humans) calling out patriarchy, sexism and stereotyping. Like a bunch of craven trolls (not gonna use potta pasanga {effeminate boys} here coz women ain’t weak!) you report the page until it is taken down and you celebrate the downfall of an edifice built by women so that your daughters, nieces and granddaughters, sons, nephews and grandsons can live in a safer, more equal world where men and women aren’t complete douches. You can’t see that we’re laying a foundation and telling men and women that they are more than what our society, culture, traditions and religions tell us they are.

You have the gall to even gender tag deeds – ambala pandra thappu (the wrong that men do) and define what’s ‘true feminism’. You make sure your definition of feminism suits your patriarchal mindset.

They want an aaya to babysit them - correcting the wrong in men and not imitating 'men's act' it seems

The understanding that women are humans with as much desires and flaws as men seem to delude these lentils.

If KK's admins talk about sex, virginity, menstruation and the female body, we’re nymphomaniacs, have been fucked by many men, are belligerent, dried up ugly women who no man wants hence frustrated and angry at all men, disgusting, prurient and immoral at the same time.

I am not celebrating Women’s Day. Not because I am tired. But because there is still so much to be done to lend a meaning to International Women’s Day. KK Team has its work cut out for it.

It takes courage and honesty to fight without resorting to underhanded measures – we never reported any pages that maligned us; max we do is ban lentils with cognitive dissonance throwing abusive tantrums who don't speak on point, resorting to personal attack. If you are courageous (not gonna use sariyana ambalaya {real men} iruntha here because bravery isn’t something reserved for men!) then fight us in proper dialectics. Try to understand what we are saying. Try not to be misogynistic, homophobic and so culture, tradition and religious centered, you forget how to be human and have humanity.

On our hard tone, listen to what Carey Mulligan says in this Suffragette trailer - "War is the only language men listen to." Women have been soft, gentle, accommodating, forbearing and what they achieved from it apart from kuthu vilakku status that's objectifying? NADA. NIL. So, why women should be all that Padayappa said they should be?

Yes, we use the f word – that’s not offensive. How women are treated is offensive. Take offence at the right things. Actually, it’s not offensive – the problem is us being women so we shouldn't swear. Our fault is not being adakkam udakkam (submissive). Well, adakkam udakkam never helped women. Being forthright and in your face help women.

I am not celebrating Women’s Day. Because it’s not all peachy keen for women or for humanity for that matter – I don’t believe in rhetoric.

For those of you wanting to celebrate International Women's Day, by all means, please do. It's your prerogative. There are great women that deserve honour and inspire humanity.
