Women are Humans, not Walking Lucky Charms

Raasi (lucky charm slapped on women by Indian culture, is nothing but a patriarchal tactic to shame women.

If a woman isn't married, she’s unlucky.

If a woman’s wedding stops, she’s unlucky.

If a woman is divorced, she’s unlucky.

If a married woman is yet to have a child, she’s unlucky.

If a woman has no son, she’s unlucky.

If a woman bears only daughters, she’s unlucky.

It goes further than that. They modernised this shit.

If a man’s success plummets, it’s his girlfriend’s tharithram (diabolic aura) – remember how Anushka’s raasi was blamed for Virat’s failure?

Kannammaa page was cheering PV Sindhu during the 2016 Olympics and Karutthu Kanthasamy (A Malaysian Indian men manned page that was created to shame and troll Kannammaa) blamed us – that if we had kept our page, unlucky vaginas, and cheers shut, Sindhu would have gotten gold.

Also, if a girl’s wedding stops, it is something to take relief from – at least she didn’t marry a guy who doesn’t like her, or for dowry. Imagine the torture she would have to undergo if she married the guy. This should be taken as thalaiku vanthathu thalappa oda poiruchu. (What came to kill you merely grazed your knees.) This goes to guys whose weddings that stopped too. Yes, it does hurt but it’s not the end of life.

In 2018, there was a case of a woman posing as a man and married women for dowry. Would you say that the women who the scammer victimised as ruined? No? So stop this shit.

My cousin’s wedding was cancelled. – everyone dukka visarikran her (offered commiseration and pity) A year later, she married another guy. Ipdi nayyapudai ah poikitte irukanum, thirumba paakama, (You should keep living and seeking, without turning back.)

P/S: In Kandukonden Kandukonden, Ajith tells Tabu that without her being lucky, could she have a good job, buy a house, and sustain her family. Poda dei, why are you belittling her efforts and pin her success on luck?
