Of Indian women not being married above 25 and thus defective
Indian women are continuously suppressed and picked upon at every turn even when it’s already 2016. The Tamil movie industry sees a huge market in peddling movies which carry contorted ideologies of women. These movies thrive on finding faults in women and the faults are often not imposed or pinpointed in men.
One such movie is Muthina Katirikai by Sundar C which is ridiculous enough to come up with statements such as any ladies who are not married within the age of 25 years old have some defects, disabilities or kolaru. Although it’s a comedy movie, it has a rippling effect on machas’ mentality. Plus, the hero himself is above 40 years old, basically a Muthina Kathirikai himself. But, he has no qualms of making such disparaging statements against women.
Somehow, a similar mentality is displayed by many machas out there who are blind to their own shortcomings but have no problem criticizing women. These machas are easily swayed by Tamil movie ideologies and a solid proof of this is movies like Thani Oruvan which carries the dialogue ‘love at first sight, kill at first betrayal.’ The dialogue became so popular among machas who think that it is justified to carry out physical violence towards girls who dump them for another guy or do any type of duplicity. No matter how fervently you try to deny this - it’s just a movie, reality proves otherwise. A good number of machas are easily influenced by dialogues, scenes and ideologies in Tamil movies. It’s a shame that the Tamil movie industry is thriving on movies that focus on condemning Indian women and manages to garner audiences among the Indians.
Just because a woman is not married within the age of 25, it doesn’t mean she is defective. It means she either doesn’t have marriage as a priority in life or she has better things to achieve. So yeah, if defective means having other plans with life, by all means, defective indeed.
A good movie which actually addresses the issue of late marriages among women is ‘Oru Naal Koothu’. We definitely recommend this movie if you are planning for a movie with your family.
