Of saree, covering up and Indian culture

The culture police is at it again, reinforcing their self fulfilling prophecy that Indian ladies covering up is the ultimatum of Indian culture.

They say that if women reveal, guys will look and the fault is on the women for revealing. But even if the women don't intend to reveal, men still look as shown in the picture on the right side - you wanna fault her for not covering her toes by wearing socks? There are videos and pics on wardrobe malfunction where the lady bits of celebrities are zoomed at which the ladies don't intend to show. And, Chennai guys complain of women bike riders covering up their faces and hands with their shawls. These 'culture protecting' guys say that those guys who do the latter are perverts. Such perverts are gonna apply their perversion regardless how women are dressed so who needs a change here? The women's dressing or the men's mindset?

Looking at girls is not wrong - WE LIKE IT TOO. Wanting to look nice and appealing to the opposite sex is natural. Looking and getting sexually excited is also natural. Nature made us that way as social animals. Sexual attraction is perfectly fine for men but what's not fine is sexual violence/harassment. And, sexual attraction shouldn't lead to sexual violence/harassment no matter how the former is induced. If you deny that then the humanity in you is dead. Your compassion for your fellow humans is dead. And, humanity is more important than your patriarchal culture. What is the use of a culture that tells you you can shame your partners in humanity at your whim and fancy, denying naturally present kindness, empathy and respect, replacing it with aggression and biased impositions?

Let's recognize our sexuality at opposite sexes, be open about it, talk about it and understand each other - . Don't let taboos and patriarchal culture alter nature. Yes, we need discipline but it should be on the inside because always trying to control what happens outside is impossible but controlling what happens inside is possible. Y'all always mention the Padayappa quote on how a woman should be but forget how he says how everyone needs to know how to control anger - yes, you can control what goes on in you. That should be the basis of any culture and religion, applicable to both men and women.

"Aaruvathu sinam mattum alla. Aaruvathu kaamam kuda dhan.'"
