Women have it easy and get free rides in life - really?

Someone commented that as a page, we only advice women to marry rich and educated men and that women get a smooth ride from schools, colleges and workplace as well. Apparently men are cursed to think, act and improve themselves whereas women get a free ride in the name of being feminine. Apparently we’re entitled middle class princesses.

First of all, we advocate financial independence for women and for them to take on other forms of independence because relying on others is not reliable. We only say that women should search for a compatible and financially stable partner. Because burden should not fall on one person in the union. It’s also ok if the guy wants to be a house husband while the woman brings in the cheddar - as long as it’s balanced and cooperation manifests.

Women get a smooth ride from schools, colleges and workplace. I think this macha overdosed on Fair & Lovely ads where the poster girl nails that scholarship, that job or that guy simply by getting a fairer complexion. You see, all exam questions are the same for girls and boys - girls don’t get easier questions just because they’re girls. To get a uni seat, there is only non bumiputera quota, not girls only quota. Girls may make up 70% of university students but that’s not coz they got a free ride; it’s because of them working their ass off and the awareness of the importance of education - no girl is stealing boys’ opportunity. Who does better gets the best bet - it’s a gender neutral competition platform.

Now, workplace - i don’t know whether this macha is aware of the gender inequality that besets the workplace as opposed to Iceland where gender discrimination is illegal. Women get paid less than men for the same job, women are catching up with men in terms of education, in fact they’ve surpassed men in educational accomplishment. The problem is the on the woman onus of caregiving responsibilities even more prevalent and ingrained in Asian societies that’s contributing to gender inequality in the workplace - these women are unable to put more hours at work because there is more work waiting at home - cooking, cleaning, washing, dusting, taking care. Although men are pitching in, it’s neither prevalent enough nor balanced enough to pave way for gender equality. Quote from Harvard based research:

“The problem arises when young adults try to balance work and family, and women end up carrying nearly all of the caregiving responsibilities.

If women put many more hours into these household activities than men, this greatly disadvantages women in the workplace. It is unrealistic to expect gender equality if workplaces demand that women be available all the time.” So women are getting a free ride in the workplace? My foot. They have it twice as hard as men and you sedap mulut can say women get a free ride. Maybe if you’re well versed in the art of ‘bodek’ and ‘planta pusuran’ you may get up the career ladder faster but that is something that is gender blind.

Men are cursed to think, act and improve themselves whereas women get a free ride in the name of being feminine. First of all, to think, act and improve is not a curse. It’s a product of evolution. Women think, act and improve as well or else how can women lead countries, organizations and companies? Women too constantly think, act and improve themselves in whatever circumstance they are in to ameliorate the circumstance. There are so many single mothers as opposed to single fathers and how do you think these women raise their children by themselves? From whom do they get a free ride?
So, as evidenced, no entitled middle class princesses here. Women work as hard, if not harder to get by. We also know that “Kashtapadama ethuvum kidaikathu, kashtapadama kidaichathu ennikume nilaikathu.” (You won’t get anything if you don’t work hard. What you get without working hard won’t last.) life is a struggle for all living beings, not just for men.
