Female Urination Device (FUD) - why Indian Women need it
Female Urination Device has been around for more than a hundred years. But Indian women are just hearing about the literally godsend in recent years. And, the fact that Indian women can use the Female Urination Device (FUD) for a lot of good reasons infuriate many Indian men. They say it's not our culture, that it's unnatural and it's harmful to the health of women.
Dei, seriously, STFU. And, no, it's not feminists imitating the acts of men - pee standing up. It's a matter of hygiene and convenience for women. Why can't you just let women be?
Our public toilets are unclean. Plainly. We may have invented flushing toilets but we failed to keep our toilets clean. Squatting toilets are no better than sitting toilets. If you know the female anatomy, our urethra is short and that makes us more prone to urinary tract infections. I had a urine bag attached to me when I was hospitalised for a serious health complication. The nurse yanked the tube out after 3 days. I was loving the fact that I didn't need to go to the bathroom and whined softly at the nurse about the removal. She matter of factly said that women are at higher risk of urinary tract infection hence doctor's orders. And, that was only my urine. Hundreds if not thousands of women use the public loos. So, don't talk about culture and bring in your self-founded medical facts that using FUD is harmful for women. It's only harmful for your ego as you think peeing standing up is the height of being a man. Try being at the height of being human. With practice, FUD can be used effortlessly so it's not unnatural for women.
My mother told me how her grandmother and the elderly women of her days used to pee standing up using a cup they always carried with them when they went to work in the fields and estates. That great grandmother of mine also never wore a saree blouse. If we are to go back to that culture, it would actually be a big step forward - our great-grandmothers used nascent FUD, drank kallu (toddy) and breastfed openly.
Indian women in rural areas walk long distances to fetch water and firewood. And, yes, they need to relieve themselves. So, if you think this Female Urination Device is only for urban women going camping and trekking, think again and that it's a luxury product, think again and again. I truly think FUD should be made accessible to rural Indian women.
FUD is also useful for pregnant women and women with arthritis - they can't sit and squat easily and FUD will be such a relief for these women.
Peeing in outer space is also kinda like using FUD with suction. Astronaut Sunita Williams showed us how it's done from the International Space Station. It's just an innovation to make the lives of humans better and women are humans. FUD will increase women's public presence and mobility and they are not a bad thing. Women can drink whatever they like when they're travelling and not hold the urge till they get home because public latrines are very unhygienic.
By the way, what is your 'culture' those opposing Indian women using FUD? Keeping toilets dirty and bridling women from doing what improves their quality of life? What a pathetic culture and you're proud of it?
We should keep our toilets clean and women have the right to use FUD. Your sexist and frail culture should be flushed down the toilet.
