Dangal (Wrestle) "Gold is gold no matter if a boy wins it or a girl"

Dangal (Wrestle) is the incredible true story of a father in a country where daughters are killed because they are looked upon as a liability to a family while sons are considered an asset - read dowry, who groomed his daughters to become wrestlers and go on to win medals for India.

YouTube description of Dangal:

"Dangal is an extraordinary true story based on the life of Mahavir Singh and his two daughters, Geeta and Babita Phogat. The film traces the inspirational journey of a father who trains his daughters to become world class wrestlers."

Mahavir Singh Phogat is one of the men who don't see girls as weak and inferior to boys. Although known as the 'rape capital' India is one of the few countries which has female jet fighter pilots. She also has capable female police officers like Kiran Bedi, women scientists who played an integral part in launching India's Mars Orbiter Mission and female athletes who rocked the 2016 Rio Olympics - PV Sindhu, Dipa Karmakar and Sakshi Malik. Keep in mind that these ladies are educated, coached and trained by men just like Mahavir Singh Phogat. The media just loves to paint a misogynistic picture of India when the reality is far from it.

Dangal is the perfect portrayal that in no way girls are lesser than boys and with the same treatment and encouragement, accomplishments in any field is the finale, Yet, at the same time, girls needn't be achievers to deserve to live. As humans, they deserve to live.

I first saw Geeta Kumari and Babita Kumari Phogat on Satyamev Jayate.

The real life Geeta Phogat went from wrestler to DSP in Haryana Police Dept. Haryana is one of India's most conservative and patriarchy steeped states - Mahavir and his wrestler daughters hailing from there is an amazing feat.
