Kollywood actresses VS Hollywood actresses and Indian ageists

It’s amazing how the Indians in general can have selective views when it comes to actresses and actors. Actresses who have passed the age of 30 are labelled – kilavi, aunty or kelthu katte (old ladies) simply because they are in their 30s. Even when these ladies look youthful, beautiful and drop dead gorgeous, they are subjected to ageism. Not to mention that you can’t see any white hair can be seen on these ladies. Yet – they are plainly referred as aunties.

However, when it comes to actors – it is a totally different mind-set at display. The actor gets to put on weight, get married and have kids, romance heroines the age of their kids, have white hair, receding hairline and yet he is seen as desirable, handsome and still full of youthfulness. No one calls him uncle, grandpa or tata. No one labels him undesirable even when he has to wear layers of makeup, dyes his hair, wears wigs to hide his aging appearances. What’s with the hypocrisy? Seriously, we Indians need a real mind-set revamp when it comes to degrading women. Respect the effort of anyone to be healthy, young and appealing to the eyes.

While we are at it, we might as well show you shallow Indians how Hollywood actresses above 40 look like.

Vanessa Williams, age 53, mother to 4 children

Salma Hayek, 50, mother to one daughter
Kate Winslet, age 41, yes, Titanic heroine
Gwyneth Paltrow, age, 44, mother to two children, Iron Man's Pepper Potts
Jennifer Anniston, age, 47, Brad Pitt's former wife

Sandra Bullock, age 52, mother to two children
Halle Berry, 50, mother of 2 kids
Nicole Kidman, age, 49, mother of 4 kids

Dana Delany, age, 60. Her secret to look like this at 60? Red wine, yoga, no marriage, no kids

These ladies above don't get branded as old ladies and they are all above 40. They are respected for maintaining their physique just like their male counterpart. Now, the question is, why can't Indians do the same?
