Disrespectful Treatment towards Indian Women

Indian men often enjoy belittling Indian women or make them look stupid in front of relatives, friends and general public. I have witnessed such display of bad attitude within my own family and random strangers. Seriously, Indian men feel empowered when they criticize Indian women – it’s as if it makes them smarter. Look dude – when I see such attitude, I feel that you must be a jerk and a asshole – not smart.

Here are some examples of some degrading qualities among the Indian guys who wanted straightforward woman like Oviya. I walked into an Indian restaurant and there is a group consisting of guys and girls hanging out there. They were talking about something and someone asked a question which the girl in that group answered. Guess what happened after that? One of the guys slammed the girl with – bodoh (stupid) enna soldra paaru (hear what she is saying)? Then, he gave an alternative answer and said – bodoh (stupid), ithu kude terile (you don’t even know this). Now, the girl and the guy are most probably couples and it is very degrading to call your other half stupid simply because she gave wrong answers. How does giving wrong answer deserve such remarks? She may have had a different perspective and that doesn’t make her stupid. Dude – if it was me, you will be very sorry when you have opened your big mouth. Why can’t Indian guys just correct where the girl went wrong instead or shaming and insulting her? If she has done that, these same Indian guys will go – niruthriya, periya parupu nu nenepu (stop it, you think you are so smart).

Next, a middle aged uncle and aunty were sitting and having breakfast at an Indian outlet. Both looked educated enough and were looking at their smartphones. Then, the aunty asked – ithu na enna? (What is this?) To which the uncle replied – athu kude unnaku teriyatha? (Don’t you know that?) Okay uncle, the reason why she asked you first is because she doesn’t know? And then you asked her in such way instead of replying to her nicely. Why? Why do you Indian men have to put a woman down? It strokes and inflates your ego? It makes you want to puff your chest and declare how smart you are?

When there is a group of friends consisting of Indian guys and girls, there will be many examples of the guys making fun of the girls for not knowing something. You will hear phrases such as – she failed her English, bro. doesn’t understand the joke. Or some will be crude and crass– ithu terilena, nee appadiye setturu (if you don’t know this means, you better die). Why do you have to say such things? Does it make you feel like you are so smart and brainy? But you don’t say that to girls of other races, do you?

Many times, during family gatherings, I have witnessed my uncles or family friends giving remarks such as – Avvalaku onnum teriyathu? (She doesn’t know anything) – referring to their wives. Why do you have to mattam tatthi pesuren (talking bad) about your wife who cooks, cleans and takes care of you? Sometimes, the best ideas come from the very wives that you have condemned. Indian men have had it easy all this while – because ladies don’t talk back to whatever they say. Well, we will see how you react when you get a straightforward lady who tells you to your face – you don’t even know this, you are stupid!....Wait till she makes fun of you in front of everyone – ‘Avarukku onum teriyathu – chumma sapthuthu,veleiku poiruvaru (he doesn’t know anything eats and goes to work). Learn to respect the Indian women or you Indian men will be sorry with many Oviya type women in the future. They will shame you for your attitude.
